Here’s What You’ll Need to Get Started.
To drive for 21 Cars, you will need to obtain a taxi driver license issued by the local authorities.
DBS Check
A valid and up-to-date DBS & criminal record check. Your local authority should complete this or alternatively request you apply for it.
Medical Check
An up-to-date medical check completed by a medical professional. Your local authority should organise this for you.
CSE Course
Communication, knowledge and CSE course, completed and passed. Your local authority and 21 Cars require this on applying.
Practical Driving Test
Your local authority and 21 Cars require you to pass a practical driving test. You must also pass the driving theory test.

Frequently Asked Questions
You do not need to provide your own vehicle, but you can if you wish. We provide a very competitive vehicle rental scheme on a weekly basis. This means that the hassle of organising insurance, MOT and PHV checks, repairs or replacement vehicle will be taken care of for you, allowing you to stay on the road and never miss an opportunity to earn more money. As a self-employed driver, it is your responsibility to hire a vehicle and to pay for the fuel and other costs
Customers pay us in two ways for their journeys, so we pay you in two ways.
Account Transactions –Account customers pay us directly via their accounts–daily payfor driversis possible for account work, please contact us for more details.Non-Accounttransactions –For cash jobs themoney is paid directly to drivers and for card jobs it is paid into your bank account each week.
You will need to provide us with your driving licence (either your paper licenceor photocard licence), your PHV licence (both parts) and your DBS Check. We can provide advice on the PHV licence process
Yes, you must be over 18 years of age
It does not matter if you don’t yet have a taxi badge. The right candidates will receive full dedicated training and support with course materials to aim for a first-time pass to obtain the taxi badge
We will provide you with the relevant course material and timescales to complete them. Once all the modules are covered, we will commence revision and advise you when to book the test.
Everyone has a different ability and different circumstances. (We have had candidates obtain a badge within four weeks from the beginning of the initial application process and we have had some candidates who have other commitments take up to twelve weeks.)
Your badge is owned by the local authority and is only available for use by you. It is therefore your personal cost. Potential candidates can discuss this in the initial meeting if necessary
You need to have held a full driving licence for 12 months. Anyone with anEC/EEA driver licence can apply; however,the licence must be replaced with a full UK DVLA licence before your taxi badge will be issued
The local authorities will not accept any other DBS. Every candidate will require an enhanced DBScheck which will be completed by local authority Licensing Officer.
Yes, and we will provide you with the relevant link to the Council’s nominated test provider
Yes. All 21 Cars’s drivers are self-employed and responsible for their own tax and national insurance.
